Eat and drink

Scotland is proud of its natural larder, and fantastic locally sourced produce is available across the country. The Highlands can boast a range of mouth-watering produce, including shellfish, beef, lamb and wild game, and many menus change daily according to what's available from local suppliers. And of course, given the large variety of world-famous whiskies on offer (many would argue that the best Scottish whiskies are produced in Easter Ross), there's also ample opportunity to sample Scotland’s national drink.

Tain and its environs has eateries to suit every occasion and budget - from fine dining to cafés and tearooms, from pub grub to romantic dinners for two. Visit Platform 1864, located in Tain's former railway station which has been transformed into a brand-new atmospheric restaurant. Enjoy freshly caught seafood at the Oystercatcher in Portmahomack. Sample some homebaking in the numerous cafes and tearooms, many of them community-run. Watch out for live music in the inns and pubs in the area. Whatever you're preference, you’ll find it here.

It’s up to you!
